Description: Explanation of current methods available for biological testing in applied forensic science including cellular source identification and DNA analyses.  Presentation of currently used DNA analysis methods and statistical interpretation of associations they develop. Suggestions for court presentation of forensic biology results including explanations of the likelihood ratio and secondary DNA transfer.  Description of the most recently developed investigative tools and the future of forensic biology.

  • How to choose and interpret the type of DNA analysis for each sample
  • Understanding of probabilistic genotyping and the software available for statistical analyses
